About

The European Venom Network is the first COST Action completely focused on venom. COST Actions are bottom-up intedisciplinary networks financed by The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) bringing together researchers and innovators for four years. Fundamental pillars of COST Actions are inclusiveness and excellence.

Why this Action?

Unleashing the potential of animal venoms

Venomous organisms produce complex mixtures of compounds that have evolved through millions of years of natural selection in evolutionary arms races. Therefore, venoms are highly specialised molecules with many potential applications, especially in pharmaceutical and biotechnological field.

Venom research is an emerging and multidisciplinary field that involves experts in the biodiversity, ecology and evolution of venomous organisms, but also in the biochemistry and pharmacology of venoms and their pathophysiological effects. Often, different european research groups explore these diverse facets of venom research with little coordination between them. Moreover, currently no single scientist or research group possesses the complete technical expertise to address all aspects of venom research.

Within EUVEN we aim to foster venom research in the Europe and beyond by removing the organisational and technical obstacles and bringing together different stakeholders.

Objectives

Research coordination

  • Identifying promising and multidisciplinary targets to focus the efforts of the venom research community.
  • Establishing best practice principles and methodological pipelines to standardize venom research.
  • Testing and promoting new methods and technologies for the investigation of venoms.
  • Developing public resources for the integration and sharing of relevant information and data.

Capacity building

  • Creating a multidisciplinary pan-European network of scientists to foster innovative studies of animal venoms.
  • Building relationships among scientists, private companies, amateurs any other stakeholder involved or interested in venom and its applications.
  • Supporting a new generation of venom researchers with interdisciplinary expertise and international collaborative perspectives.

Join The Action

Side with EUVEN and benefit from our multidisciplinary network

Participation in EUVEN Working Groups is open to any individual affiliated in a legal entity wherever in the world, willing to actively contribute to the realization of our objectives.

Applications will be assessed by the Core Team members, taking into consideration the scientific relevance to the Action, the geographic and gender balance.
